I said here that Amanda Hemingway's Sangraal series kind of reminded me of Jan Siegel's Prospero's Children books.

Turns out there's a reason for that.

I discovered in the course of a reference transaction today that Hemingway and Siegel are in fact the same person.

I'm so brilliant, perceptive, and all-around smart, she said smugly.

Sandra McDonald, The Outback Stars. A very good navy-in-space yarn with some interesting mystical overtones. It also doesn't assume that the future will be American/European. This seems to be McDonald's first book; I will definitely be looking for more as she writes them.

Amanda Hemingway, The Sword of Straw. Good. The first one was somewhat more gripping. These kind of remind me of Jan Siegel's Prospero's Children books--very similar feel. (That's not entirely a rave review, although I liked the Siegel as well.)
